If the bush on the left has old, nonproductive stubs you can cut those flush with the graft. The bushes look close together but I don't know when "moving time"is in Arizona.

Both look very well done to me. Variety makes a big difference in how they will respond. After each flush, I'd prune them up to keep them looking the way you want. The smaller bush I'd do lightly and the bigger bush to keep it shaped.

Thank you, everybody! These roses are so old (over 30 years!) that I would be afraid to move one. I certainly wouldn't have planted them so closely together.

How many flowers you get is a direct function of how many leaves are on the plant--the more leaves, the more flowers.

Exhibitors will hard prune their plants to get longer stems--by removing leaves, the plant has to start all over again and grow a long stem to produce enough leaves to produce a flower. This does not give you more flowers. But, as they say in exhibiting, you only need one (perfect) rose to win Queen!

Sometimes a shrub rose will get leggy--you only get top growth and the bottom of the tall canes are bare--Fragrant Lavender Simplicity did that so I cut it short and started all over again. You want to do this in the early Spring, not after the plant has just flowered, as roses put so much energy into flowering that you are likely to have a sulking plant if you prune it after it has just flowered.
