Dining Room Layout

Just moved to a new house and having trouble with a layout. In need of additional storage and a functional piece to be used as a server. Our table is 84" with 2 leaves, one that we use often. We have two inlaid radiators below the Windows. Obvious place for a sideboard/buffet is wall opposite the China cabinets, but not enough room to walk by or for head chairs. Room doesn't feel symmetrical and I am having a hard time with it. Where should the sideboard/buffet go? Should I relocate the corner cabinets (not super functional bc of corner dimensions)? Want to start designing as soon as I figure a layout. Thanks everyone!

Id actually just use the corner cabinets and not use a sideboard/hutch. I feel they add character. I would not hang the Eat sign

I think the obvious place for the server is on the wall under the clock. It's hard to tell in your photos, but it looks like it could tuck right in there, just so long as it's no deeper than the wall by the kitchen door. If the corner cabinets aren't functional, get rid of them.

Thanks Linda, that's what we were thinking but what happens to the wall opposite? Almost feels as though it needs something to anchor that as well. Something a bit more substantial than a plant or piece of art.

I would place on the wall where the large clock is and center a mirror over. Where you have the small brass flower, I would add your clock which will help with balancing/weight on other side of the room. Every wall doesn't have to be filled.

The corner cabinets are giving the space a dated look. Just moving those out could be helpful in arranging furniture. Hanging drapery panels will then make that end of the room look nice leaving only minimal wall space on either side for wall decor. Love your pretty chairs and the wall trim below chair rail.

I disagree that they are dated looking. They are CUSTOM looking and give your room character. I 'm tired of seeing everyone having NEW furniture in GRAY rooms....there is absolutely nothing wrong with working with what you have and being an individual.

Agree with Diane and maggys111, the corner cabinets add a lot of charm. Your dining room is lovely, but I don't think the eat sign or the clock belong in the space, they are both too casual imo....

Yes should have stated that all the decor(eat, small brass mirror, clock, green curio) are all there because I have no where else to put it but have no plans to use in that room.
