Don't you wonder about the salt and pepper shakers on the tables in restaraunts? i wonder what the colony counts are.

We live in a world of "anti-bacteria" craze!!! Yes it's good to be clean, but a little bacteria is fine. Our bodies are made to protect us against it. People going around using chemicals everywhere to clean are harming themselves even more. There are very harmful chemicals in cleaning products & "antibacterial" sanitizers. They are needed at times, but I can't stand how everyone freaks out at a little bacteria and uses chemicals to clean it up. I do understand not everyone has the immune system to deal with this.

This is good in the sense that people do need to know proper food handling, storage, and cleanup. I can't stand to watch my mother in law handle raw chicken, rinse her hands with water, then touch every surface in the kitchen. It makes me want to barf.

All my spatulas are one-piece items, and I never use a blender ... but I don't wash my refrigerator drawers often, and I'm sure the can opener is a problem. I don't get why the pizza wheel is an issue -- it goes into the dishwasher.

Some bacteria (not ecoli or listeria of course) is good for you and your gut! I stopped using a fancy can opener and just use the old fashioned metal one and run it in the dishwasher now - it's by far the dirtiest thing in most commercial kitchens too since noone disassembles the power ones and washes them ever.

An item not on that list that probably should be is scissors- the ones that get used to open food packages and, in some households, also get used for other general purposes. I run ours through the dishwasher all the time.

We all have ecoli. It's a natural part of our intestines. Most of it is harmless.
