Nantucket bead board preventative maintenance / installation help

I have installed Nantucket bead board a few months back and since then, the bead board has had some separation between a few of the panels. I have used an Acryllic Silicone Latex blend caulk for the bead board and I have also used a semi gloss paint finish to repaint the bead board. There was already a layer of paint on the bead board before I had painted on it, so I felt there was no need for primer. I have seen this same issue happen before in different areas as the bead board shrinks and grows with temperature changes. Is there some sort of installation I should have done differently or some sort of preventative maintenance I could do to prevent the separation of the bead board or is this something that is inevitable and as it happens I simply need to re-caulk / repaint.
