yes, I hate the seam in the center of the sink especially if your sink is front and center!. There is no good solution especially if you are aware of the seam! Some people actually don't even see the seam but I always do.

I try to place the seam as close to a corner as possible - to my eye, it is less obvious.

I agree with miguel, the center seam at the sink and faucet area is a total eyesore. In my case, the sunlight would have reflected on that sink seam...and I would have cursed it every day! Plus that sink seam will continually get water on it. Work with your fabricators and insist on a better solution. Yes...you will have a longer seam, but it will not be noticeable as long as the grain/movement is properly matched and the installers know what they are doing.

I would like the smallest seam possible and uniterupted counter so front and back of sink is my choice and is the usual place for the seam.

Our quartz installer said that seaming through the sink hole would compromise the holding capacity of the counter for our 33" undermounted sink. We seamed a couple feet from the sink and I very rarely notice it.

If your stone is pretty uniform (meaning, mostly spotty, rather than having large pattern waves), then you can probably do it a number of places without its bothering you (constrained by the need for proper support, etc.). However, it can be very hard to get a good join in stone with more movement, so I recommend trying for a sink seam in that case if at all possible. Better to have a one-inch seam where your belly leans against it than to have a half-matched pattern in the middle of a big expanse, where the best achievable pattern match requires either a second slab or learning to live with an abrupt change.
