Research done at the University of Maryland on 'Red Lion' showed that withholding watering for 8 weeks resulted in the plants flowering in 60 days once watering was resumed. 6% flowered within 20 days, 61% flowered within 40 days, and all bulbs flowered within 60 days. The 2 week interruption of watering resulted in flowering 160 days after watering was resumed. 4 week interruption resulted in flowering 140 days after watering was restarted. 83% of continuously irrigated plants flowered in 160 days. The minimum temperature was 18 deg. C day and 15.5 deg. C night. I have grown Hippeastrum in a greenhouse without a dormant period and they have flowered. The problem is that you do not know when they will flower. The 8 week dry period seems to be the most efficient method.

That is very helpful information. I also have a Red Lion that doesn't bloom.
