Hahnii is the default plant that comes to mind but some of them can be difficult though. There are a few others that come to mind but you'll have to do a little searching for them. Pinguicula is another choice, it has very spiky leaves and looks kind of an agave. It's common enough that you might find it at a specialty nursery. It is a very slow grower though. Ballyii is also a small plant, it pups pretty quickly too. Concinna comes in a few sizes, one is pretty small. It is known as a spoon leaved Sans. Parva has a grassy look that tends to flop when it gets older, it also pups very quickly. Francissii starts out small and is very interesting, it stacks and eventually cascades. Those are the ones that come to mind, maybe somebody else knows of some more.

Those are good. You may more commonly find, in some of the local box stores, any of the S. trifasciata future types.......they grow taller than hahni but shorter than the tall types. Perfect size. 'Moonshine' (new pups are silvery white aging to green is easy to find, Robusta, newer (but for some reason commonly found) cultivars 'Whitney' and 'Eve' would work well. Check your supermarkets and big box stores for these and others.

Thanks so much for giving us somewhere to start. Everything sounds unique and interesting. After reading here, I'm sure to be somewhat skeptical of the labeling - so thanks for the descriptions too.

I find them all the time in Wal-marts. I always check to see if I can spot some thing different. Some times I find Flame mixed in and for about $3. Most are small and could grow to about 16 inches. If you want smaller then Hanhnii is the one you want.

Unfamiliar with it, so searched for Flame images, and pulled up "Gold Flame". Some look almost all yellow - wonder if those need more light than Sans with more green? Or maybe the coloration is a changing young/old leaf thing, or a response to different light? Interesting.

I can tell you that no two leaves are alike. And they seem very hardy and easy to grow.
