If it's one of those single leaf cuttings, it likely will never grow. Did it come like this...

Vendors sell these as novelties around Valentines Day. The cuttings are taken in a way that they will never grow, yet they root and will live sometimes for years like this. If you want a viable plant, you'll have to buy one with a vine. Google Gardino's Nursery - they have several to choose from and their plants are excellent!

Thanks for writing. Yes, it looks just like this single leaf. I have seen a video taken in Argentina where it shows many rows of single leaves in pots growing so I do have hope. Lynn

Leave it in the pot, though. You might still get quite a few years of life from it. I'm leaving mine until it decides it's time to go.

Oops, I already ripped it out and it did have lots of roots. Anyhow I have a lot of plants inside so I can't waste space on something that won't grow in the very near future. Thanks anyhow. Lynn

I have actually had two Kerri plants grow from a leaf cutting only. I have grown quite a few carnosa hoyas the same way by just a leaf.

I didn't realise it was so rare for them to not grow. Must be something in my water..haha.

AG, it's that you had to have gotten a bit of the stem when the leaf was removed or fell off. As I understand it, it only takes a few of the "meristem" cells to produce growth. If you actually cut a leaf halfway between the leaf and the stem, it's unlikely you would get any of these cells on Hoyas. But if it breaks off or you "snap" it off and it comes off down near the stem, there's a good chance you'll get some and it will eventually grow. Obviously, some plants carry these special growth cells all through the plant, because you can get half an AV leaf to grow. I've always wondered why they stop at the stem with Hoyas. Has someone found something that explains this?

Yes I snap the leaf off the stem and am currently rooting 4 Kerri and 4 Carnosa (which my 2 and 3yr olds snapped) which are going well. Will be some time until I see if I am fortunate again to have them stem and grow. My Mother got me addicted to them but I am only now starting to really grow with intention.

Before last year I just potted in red soil and didn't think twice. Seems the more I actually fuss over one and its potting mix and humidity now the more goes wrong..lol.. Had more luck when I knew nothing.
