I have several raised veggie beds without weed barriers and they do get some weeds but its usually on the very top, not coming from the bottom. So I don't think weed cloth would really work. Its up to you but I don't think its worth the money or time. In the future if you want to turn those beds down deep it could be an issue. My beds are 8'x4'x2' Instead of weed barrier I would spend the money on some kind of watering system or you will be out there with the hose constantly and that gets old fast. Camp Verde AZ

Thanks for the comment, that's what I was thinking. I hadn't thought about digging up the soil more at some point.

I actually have already put the work into the irrigation (it made me late building the raised bed). I added a valve to my existing sprinklers/drip system to be dedicated to the garden.

This may be coming a little too late, but I would watch my bed width. You would want to reach in from both sides without having to step in the raised bed compacting the soil. I would look to a bed no wider than 4 ft. HTH

I spend probably less than ten minutes a year on weeding. I think the secret is water management with drip. If the weeds don't get enough water, they don't thrive enough to matter.

Low water use also lets wooden bed sides last a long time.
