Aravaipa Avocado
Seems to be limited discussion here of the Aravaipa Avocado, an Arizona "native" avocado that has quickly gained quite a bit of notoriety locally, and a sort of frenzy of excitement here in the Phoenix area. Long story short, a huge, 100 year old avocado tree was found by local fruit-nuts in Aravaipa canyon, scions were brought back, grafted, and have shown remarkable resilience to our Phoenix heat. Only a couple of tropical fruit growers sell the trees and they sell out very quickly when they have them. The leaves are a bit thicker than other trees. Not sure what kind of rootstock they're being grafted onto. I planted one last month, it wasn't even fazed by the 24 degrees that my yard reached last week. I haven't heard or read any reviews of the fruit. Anyone care to offer up experience with this variety?
