Cowboyflowerman plants

When Cowboyflowerman's listing indicates 2 plants per pot, are they really small or are they still worth the price?

    They are worth the price.

Most of his plants are 2-3 plants per pot and they are always a nice size.

Great! Thank you. It's not a good time of the year to catch the Hoya bug though. lol

I've gotten some very nice plants from CBFM. Just be sure to repot the plants (same size pots, but use a soil mix that has better drainage/aeration). And as far as time of year, if you are talking about shipping, you can get a heat pack to put in the box, which will keep the plants alive for 3 or 4 days in shipping during chilly, but not extreme, weather.

However, it's still best to try to plan your order and shipping for a period when no extremely low temperatures are coming anywhere between you and Florida during the shipping period. The heat packs do not protect if the box is sitting outside long enough for below-freezing temperatures to penetrate the box. CBFM ships via the postal service, which does seem to keep the boxes a bit better protected than FedEx (my biggest losses were in boxes which FedEx allowed to freeze solid on the way, heat pack did not save them).

One other thing, if you do order from CBFM or any other grower in the winter --- ask to have the box marked "Live Plants" and "Do Not Chill." In my experience, all of the shipping companies handle boxes so marked more carefully than they do boxes with no such labeling. And some growers do not automatically put those labels on the boxes.

Thanks zigbud. My Gardino's order took 6 days from FL to NC even though it was shipped priority 2 day. It was also boldly marked "priority" "live plants" and "perishable- do not delay". I did have 1 heat pack but they only last about 72 hours.

The plants arrived in good condition minus a few leaves. They were also well watered before shipping which helped.

Do not buy from Cowboyflowerman!! I bought 2 yellow dragon fruit plants for a quite high price of $25. Both sent were incredibly small and not 100% rooted. They also had orange spotting and discoloration. Despite my best efforts both slowly died. A complete waste of time and money... for comparison, this year (2016) I bought multiple varieties of dragon fruit and all took off. Even producing many fingers perfect for cuttings. Yet those 2 yellow ones from Cowboy literally showed up, hung around for 2 months and never grew or changed... except to eventually die.

Picture. Notice the size. This was taken about 2 months after it got here. This was my final attempt to save it. When I took it out of the tiny pot it shipped in after a month it had no roots and never established in the large cup I used.

Did you contact CBFM about the situation? Did he offer to make good on the deal? I've ordered from him several times and never had a problem; plants are a little on the small size and some were slow to get established, but everything was healthy; I would order from him again if he had something I really wanted...

They've been a little on the small size for me too but was still very happy with my purchase. Very healthy and a large variety.

I contacted the seller today but as that it was through ebay and my order was originally late September, there was nothing I could do. Not even leave feedback to give others a heads up.

I told the seller of the situation but no refund or replacement was asked by me and none was offered.

For further reference I attached a picture of 2 other varieties of DF I bought within days of my purchase from CBFM. They were from another ebay seller and 1 from a local nursery.

The 2 larger ones are cuttings that arrived un rooted from Ebay and are doing great, and the slightly smaller one is a cutting I took off another "white fleshed" DG purchased from a local nursery. The white was so healthy and productive that I was able to take 3 cuttings from it already this fall.

So my feeling is that for $14.50 plus shipping for a very tiny and not yet rooted (although it was advertised as healthy and rooted) plant is way too high. Maybe that's not the case with CBFM all the time, but so far compared to other resources it's been a disappointing experience. The picture really speaks to the quality of his goods compared to others.

Wow...a picture is worth a thousand words. I would send CFM that shot and see what he says. Lol

I've got good plants from him but i would definitely be upset if he sent that small of a plant to me......

What's crazy is I ordered 2 plants for $25 and both were that small. The 2nd one was a bit worse becuase it was a "middle section" of DG. You could see it had been cut across the top. So it was kinda trying to produce a shoot off the side but it never happened.

I've ordered from CBFM many, many times. I've lost count how many, and I've received maybe 3 plants that were small and/or died. I must have at least two dozen plants from him, and the great majority of the time his plants are well rooted, several plants per pot, and of a good size. I wouldn't hesitate to keep ordering from him.
