Darren, is this a large, commercial grow you are attempting? Hakone grasses in the ground require no specific fertilization but if growing on for any time in a container situation, they will need frequent supplemental ferts. Any sort of higher N liquid fertilizer is fine - I'm not sure what the study was attempting to impart but the specifics of the product are not all that important.

There should be any number of products that would work - Alaska Fish fertilizer, Maxicrop Fish, Dr Earth's Nitro Big, Dyna Gro's Foliage Pro or High N Pro should all do the job more than adequately. And there is always the fall back to urine - yes, human urine (diluted) is an excellent garden fertilizer and always readily available :-))
