Secondly, i have to say you are a bit of a chicken. I see bright in your cover pic with the lovely lanterns, then i see a couple bright patterns and the rest all dark monotone. So are we going to roll in those luscious colors? or do you want nice and sedate and then lets blow some what at them?

Hi Kelli, you have a beautiful home. Your floors are gorgeous and your charcoal gray paint is sophisticated.

You have a generously-sized space for a foyer. How do you want to use it?

If your main entry leads to this room, it would be helpful to have some furniture on the side of the room near the entrance that make it comfortable to come home - a large console or occasional table to catch your keys and change, some mounted hooks or a hall tree to hold bags and coats, a mat for boots and shoes, etc.

It looks like you may also have space there to add another function to the room. Maybe a reading nook or meditation area? Maybe a place to roll out a yoga mat? Of course the furniture you pick will depend on how you want to use the room.

I'm always a fan of a rug and curtains to soften a room. Find a rug you like (with some charcoal gray and white in it) and pull colors out of that to choose your curtains. Some light-colored curtains (maybe a print on a white background) would provide contrast against the dark gray paint.

And how about a few plants?

    Good luck and have fun!

Is the foyer down the long hallway to the right of the stairway? If so, can you take a photo of just the foyer to help us with this dilemma. You have not given us much as far as style, however I see a touch of Macintosh in the stair rails. Love the pattern of the hard wood floors. Wish the FP had not been painted, though. I hope you did not do it.

Thanks so much for all the advice! We just signed the lease and yes, the fireplace will be painted white before move in!!!

As soon as you step off the stairs, it's the open entryway on the right and then the living room on the left. If you turned around left and around, the dining room is on the right and a long hallway to the bedrooms and sunroom.

I love gold (not bronze) accents and will be putting a flat tv on the left side of the mirror above fireplace and also adding a large, sculptured topiary somewhere. Considering brown leather sofa or club chairs within decent budget. I don't love anything too modern and want to ease away from industrial.

kelli, it is just that you are saying gray, but all the snaps are blue?

so you will be using the foyer as a living room, correct?

It looks like over the fp will be too high for your tv. do you have matching shelves on both sides of FP and can you remove top shelf, to lower tv a touch?

Living room is 7 feet to the left as you ascend the stop floor. So straight in front to the window is the open space that I'm trying to make useful. The pictures are meant to give a perspective of the space ;) I have a hard time creating a space but I know what I love when I see it!! Sorry, amateur here.

Consider this as your foyer and the rest as your living room:

Id put shelves on the wall and a round table in the center. Use the space as a library. Large rug and larger, lower chandler

I like adding the shelves and grover is right, although open to the foyer, i think the bit she taped out should be the foyer too. So is there anyway we can get a drawing and measurements or pics with measurements for the part you consider a room?
