very tightly woven heavy canvas slipcovers, they've been off and washed and back on 2x a year for 20 years now. only the last 8 with a cat (first 12 with kids) but still. she cannot get her claws into the fabric.

I have microfiber/suede and my kitty still claws at it occasionally but I still think it's less appealing than most fabrics.

I have 5 cats and they don't claw furniture. I have scratching posts all around the house in carpet and sisal and they go to that. With that said, microfiber and leather works very well for keeping clean and free of hair. You can just wipe it off.

I like leather, cat fur simply does not stick to it. Also tightly woven architectural fabrics BUT ABSOLUTELY NO FRISEE OR BOUCLEE as they act like velcro and cat fur attaches forever. I use a product "Sticky Sheets" to remove cat hair from duvet covers and all other fabric items in the house. They are large and get the job done quickly. Find them on the internet.

My friend's leather couch was destroyed by her two cats clawing it, so some cats do like it. Microfiber works well, there is nothing to pull, and they don't like the feel.

I too have had cats scratch leather. Gave the chair to my son. I cut my cats nails with a large nail clipper. solves the problem

Microfiber. Nothing canvas-like (similar to the fabric of duffle bags and soft-sided luggage). Put scratch posts, recline scratchers, cat trees, cat shelves, whatever, so that the cat has plenty more interesting than the furniture. Ours comes to the living room, goes straight for the scratch post, and leaves everything else alone.

I don't have cats anymore but have had them in the past and what has always worked for me is velvet. They didn't seem to like it for some reason.

Leather for the fur issue. No magic answer for scratching - there is nothing that will work for all cats, except training them to keep their claws out.

If it has to be fabric, one that includes the same colors as your kitty, and not a solid. No, I'm not joking...color coordinating your pets and furniture does work.

Moses, the cat we inherited from my late nephew, hasn’t come home for three days. Niece Valerie’s cat, Thandy, never came home several years ago. Perhaps they’ve met the same fate as we do have coyotes and some have claimed to have seen panthers locally. I can think of worse ways to go; both are efficient predators.

Lynn Anne has me fetch a white trash bag from the slough in our backyard. With the recent rain, I had to pull it out, puncture it, then give it a day or two to drain. She said it looked too much like Moses lying there. As I set it out front for the trash, I poked it several times. There is no rigor mortis cat inside.

My estranged sister’s in law will find a way to make Moses’ death/disappearance my fault. I shouldn’t have let him be an outside/inside cat. Lynn Anne and I are the ones that took Moses to the vet for his frostbitten ears back in Michigan when Andrew lived in our basement and befriended him. We are the ones that provided him a nice kitty retirement in Florida. He always wanted to be an outside cat and got his wish his last 16 months here.

Why couldn’t he have disappeared two weeks ago before I spent nearly $500.00 to have a tumor removed from his shoulder? He had chewed or scratched the spot raw; we had to do something. He got groomed while he was under because he would no longer let Lynn Anne brush him and he wouldn’t clean himself much. He stitched up nicely and wobbled a bit from the anesthesia after he came home. The vet asked if I wanted the tumor checked for cancer. “No.” I said. If he had cancer at his age and condition, he would be made comfortable until he died. This is my cat, not my wife.

Moses’ death/disappearance and my wife’s benign breast biopsy are a relative walk in the park compared the horror that was 2016, the worst year of my last 47. Although I realize we’re only half through and things can always change, I’m pursuing perspective here. I feel as though I’m still tidying up from ’16.

We got a kitten more than a month ago, plenty of time for Moses and the other two boys to show their contempt for the interloper. If cats are only allocated a quota of hisses, Moses certainly spent the last of his. Goodbye my friend; I doubt that’s premature. Should you toddle back in another month, there will be food in the dish for you. If not, like when your previous owner left us, I’ll try to understand.

over the years, I have outlived many deeply loved fuzzy family members. Most of the time we take such good care of them that they force us to decide for them. But i have found that even when they choose that it is time, the guilt is always profound on our part,so i always try to remind myself that there would have been no life if we had not happened along.

Help I have 2 12 month old kittens that will be 1 year old next month and they love tearing up my futon with their claws I would never declaw them its to cruel they have already torn up the back and underneath of the futon I have now any suggestions on what kind of futon to get that they can't tear up
