Kitchen Layout

Alrighty, well I flooded my kitchen and dining area which is part of the living room. I live in an older home so when u come in through the front door its like 1 big rectangle and then a wall, with a small 46 sq foot kitchen. While cleaning up the flood we decided to extend the kitchen out into the dining/living area by knocking the the small wall down, where our fridge backed up to and also leads to the hallway. Well knocking the wall down was not easy and we ended up having all these beams, etc.. Ok so I need some form of layout here as it's just one big room. One wall is an entire brick fireplace. I have an engineer friend who said I have an 18x7 spans to work with but I think I can extend it even more at least 18x10 so I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Please don't judge the pictures as we have 3 bedrooms stuffed into our back den and out kitchen has been boxed up partly and in our living room. We are at the point for the electrician and plumber to come out but I still cannot figure out a layout. I was thinking of a U or L shape, so I must have a bar/island as I have 2 kids. Here's my current pics of my one big room. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1st pic shows dining area with opening to back den, we are wanting to move sink to the window (we are replacing window as well) and come around with a bar/island where the single piece of lumbar is. 2nd pic taken from hall shows where wall was knocked out on the right and the single piece of board ends right where we knocked the wall down so I was thinking of bar/island there which would be an 18X7 total space i am working with but I still have room for at least 3 more feet I would think as my living room is still rather a decent size. 3rd pic shows

The small kitchen to the right which has what was a window that was opened up to add the back den. Of course we are enclosing that part in, which is also where the current sink is and the rest of it is the dishwasher, a little more counter space and then the stone and OTR microwave. any help is appreciated I just wanted an open kitchen, a bar/island I have a huge kholer farm house apron sink to put under the window if anyone needs more pics I will gladly send them, especially of the cabinets, etc in my old kitchen only issue with making it 18x10 and not 18x7 will be that the bar/island would pass up my hallway opening which would throw it off, I think anyways this is my first post on here and you guys seem so helpful and the guys that did all this work well they admitted they messed up too so this is a nightmare
