Tight microwave install

last modified: 10 years ago

I just installed a new over-the-stove microwave yesterday and to my disappointment it didn't quite fit.

The height and width were ok, but the new microwave was slightly shallower than the previous one. The result is that the microwave door will not fully open because it binds against the existing trim. Whereas the previous door stuck out a bit more, this one is recessed and interferes with the cabinetry finishing.

I am stumped- I doubt there is anything that I can do to remedy this, but I am open to any helpful suggestions.

Here are a couple of pictures: http://imgur.com/a/US7hg

I don't know if it is evident from the photos, but the microwave and trim actually stick out about and 1.5 inches out from the rest of the surrounding cabinets.

Thank you.
