Pansy HELP please!!!

I started pansies under lights for the first time. They have been in the basement and are about 3 to 4 inches tall now. We are having a very mild winter here in zone 7 this year and I'm wondering if setting them outside now is too early. I'm not sure how to harden them off from the constant temp of about 75 to a cooler 50 to 65 degrees outside. Can I set them out in the morning (around 40 degrees) in the shade, leave them all day, and then bring them in at nights? It that too much cool weather too quickly? If I do that will the warmer inside temps at night hurt them? Should I wait until midday when temps are around 55 - 65? Night time temps are still near freezing. I would really appreciate any advice!! Thank You!
