I would not paint the stair risers.

If you can afford it, good solid core paneled doors add character to a home. You can do either white to match the trim (if you are painting it) or wood.I am not sure how small your moldings are, but you can try painting what you have first before investing in wider trim.I would leave the risers alone because they look very nice. I painted mine because they were pine with lots of knots. I like them, but they do show dirt.
