yes we are only doing the portico and over the garage, so cost isnt crazy

i just spoke to my architect and i believe we are going to go with lead coated copper (benefits of copper but will maintain the color scheme of greys and black)

Copper is the gold standard for roofs (pardon the mixed metaphor). It costs more, but it sure makes a statement.

The only statement that lead coated copper makes is, ''I overpaid for my roofing.''. Good quality standing seam metal in a charcoal grey is more easily found, and guys who work with it are more easily found. Thus lowering costs overall, not just material costs.

The copper will age and turn almost black...I know I thought it would go verdigris but I've seen several copper roofs lately and they've aged in a few short years to really dark bronze-black.

leelee: Yes, the roofs turn dark brown fairly quickly, and THEN turn to verdigris. The dark brown is the first step, the verdigris is the final color, That's how copper works; it's a chemical reaction.
