appropriate HVAC zoning

I am updating the HVAC system for my ranch home with a basement (50% above ground). Should I opt for a single or 2-zone system?

One person I spoke with said that with proper ductwork, both floors will be within a few degrees of each other, so no need for a separate zone. Another said that zoning would be required because there could be a discrepancy of upwards of 10 degrees. Both said that with the limited use of the basement, a separate system would not be a good idea.
