This kind in partucular, by any chance? I've always wanted to try one but haven't gotten around to it. I'd be thrilled to try some with an orchid.

You still use a bark mix for them I assume?

I don't know the species names but any of the "air plant " types would work. That photo looks like a bromeliad to me.

I have one set up with a Vanda in a basket and a few tillandsias, no other media, another with in a pot with coarse bark.

Lots of people grow live Spanish moss with orchids which is also a tillandsia.

All my airs plant die on my orchids so now they are on trees. In the orchids they last me 1 month. On tree they been there for a couple of months and they are growing and healthy.

I had wondered about that, I've always seen them labeled as just vromelaid but acording to Google it is tillandsia.

Tillandsias are one of many genus of bromeliads.

An orchid growers answer is pretty much no...you can't adequately care for both in the same pot. If you want to display them together, arrange the pots side by side and enjoy.

I see lots of group plantings of orchids with many other types of plants sold mostly in the "box "stores Ranged from anthurim,bromeliads ,spathiphyllum,calatheas,ferns Orchids in the various groups were phals brassia ,catts epicats and even dends. Media used is mostly long fibered sphag since all are in flower assuming they were put together for marketing . Would think that the selections would not last due to various growth habits Such as "fireball" brom would way outgrow a catt BUT almost impossible to tell the particular variety in the groups?

I personally grow ferns, broms and various types of epi cactus and a couple of the groups are well over 10 years old.

When I went to Costa Rica I got to observe various types of orchids growing naturally and the one thing that was completely absent was an orchid growing alone lol One particular group was a large leafed Catt and I counted at least 30 other types of plants growing around and even upon. Most remarkable was the various vines and mosses most of which I couldn't identify lol

All looked remarkably healthy though MUCH insect damage but I only got to observe for a short time .Would love to see how that plays out over time??

One thing I did notice was that orchids were ALWAYS in the minority of the groups and none were in flower . Predominant were ferns and mosses almost all the vines were growing from the ground into the group.

Yes, I've seen orchids grown in botanical gardens and zoo environment plantings...and they mostly look like crap. It's apparently very difficult to treat the orchids appropriately and keep most other plants happy as well....the orchids are likely to be the more delicate and wither away.

I grow various orchids in the same pots and they all do very well...Here's a pic of one of them....Here's and example of a 'twinkle' planted with a 'brassavola'..One smells good by day and the other by night..I love this one)

I do. I have wire, coir lined hanging baskets planted with bromeliads and orchids. Even have a few epiphytic cacti and a Hoyas in some. You just need to pick orchids that like a simmilar potting mix.

Mike, I like the way the Brasavola and twinkle look together. I've been thinking about doing a combo potting of different color twinkles.

I like the baskets they look very interesting.

I don't know much about Bromeliads but a quick check on the care requirements and it looks like there is quite a bit of overlap.
