It does resemble some of the Silver Silk pictures quite a bit. I might have to go to Lowe's today to see their sample.

Well, I went to Lowe's and the Silver Silk sample they have there is not even vaguely similar to this slab...it had a very uniform speckle pattern which included burgundy/red dots and I don't remember this having anything remotely red. That still doesn't mean it isn't Silver Silk but I guess I'll have to go back to the stone yard and have another look & take close up detail pictures.

Read the great rocks thread and consider doing some testing while you are at the stone yard. It looks like a very pretty slab. Your chances of having it identified via pictures are slim to none, stone dealers make up all kinds of names and even if you got the "right" one your particular slab may differ from others with regard to properties like etching, scratching, and porosity. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2692150/countertop-geology-part-six-lets-talk-about-rocks-some-more

To get around contractual selling agreements, granite vendors simply change the name then sell to the shop next door. This stone is quarried in India. Its very moisture sensitive and can curl when set with thinset or wetted deeply. Use epoxy setting materials.

I would really like to see this material curl, do you have any pictures of that?

We installed this same material on a floor. The curling was quite obvious. We had to remove what was installed and reset. Just because its granite, doesn't mean it can't be bent.

The floor tile you posted looks like Glacier White or River White to me, not the slab I was asking about. I was just curious if anyone recognized this granite so I can see pictures of it installed...I'm not that concerned with its composition or durability...just wanted to see if it gives the look I'm going for in a kitchen. :)

Hi there. I work for a stone company and have done for 12 years. To me that looks like a material called "Fantastic White. " Pietra in Italian simply means "Stone" so the translation from your supplier is "White Stone." You will find many suppliers have different names for the same material elsewhere. This is to stand out. Don't be fooled they are the same thing. Look at fantastic white see what you think, it is a beautiful material.
