That's what Google translation says but it sure doesn't look like my Viridi Rascal. But then...it doesn't look like my Ratatouille either. Their picture is gorgeous.

Nancy, your pictures of Viridi Rascal (both years) are beautiful!! I remember seeing them before. Also I think that your Ratatouille from last year does look very similar to your Viridi Rascals, don't you!! ??

I remember last year I was the only one who's Ratatouille that actually looked like we thought they should look like. My Viridi Rascals however have never bloomed so I have nothing to compare them to at the moment. Also, my Ratatouilles from last year aren't doing particularly well, I am trying again this year.

I only posted this because this site appears to indicate that they are one and the same.

I haven’t been able to find any registration information for
‘Ratatouille.’ If memory serves, the
breeder’s rights for ‘Ratatouille’ were offered for sale on the now defunct
Hippeastrum Breeding B.V. site in 2010 or 2011.
Perhaps, the rights were sold.

As they did last year, Sonatini.com
offers both varieties. Their photos appear to show two different
varieties. It is interesting that
‘Viridi Rascal’ is listed without the
registration symbol ® and ‘Ratatouille’ is listed with the ®.

Like Donna, I am still
waiting for the ‘Viridi Rascal’ bulbs that I purchased from Royal Colors in the
spring of 2013 to flower. Thus, I have
no photographs to compare with ‘Ratatouille’ firsthand. Maybe,
Ray, Kristi, or Maria would kindly ask Andre or Charles Barnhoorn about this little mystery.

My Viridi Rascal is from bulbs purchased from RC in 2014. It is the only one out of 3 that bloomed so far. The other is from Sonatini.com so if they are the same(?), where can I get the beautifully colored one on that Dutch site? lol

The more I look at the 2015 photo of your 'Viridi Rascal' in the ground, the more I'm reminded of Hadeco's Sonatini 'Graffiti'. Please take a look.

What ever they are...they're beautiful. Are they true to Sonatini size? I'm such a sucker for the smaller growing ones, as you may already know :-))))

All the Sonatini's I got were "smaller" than the typical Dutch hybrids. The Orange Rascals were the smallest of the bunch. ADORABLE!

Just to confirm the almost obvious: the site does say that 'Viridi Rascal' is a synonym of 'Ratatouille'. In the description it says that these were bred to be grown outdoors year round in Holland. The exact same words are used in the description of all their Sonatini hybrids (under "Hippeastrum"). "Hippeastrum Amaryllis" has their large flowered hybrids. Dutchie in Canada speaking, not Google translation ;-).

Nancy, I agree with Blanca, your Viridi Rascal in ground, looks a lot like Graffiti. The one thing that may be different is size, is this a smaller sized flower and plant (leaves)? -J

I received the bulbs yesterday ,

one isn't fine but the other are OK , with very long roots , so I hope They will bloom soon .

for information : The Viridi Rascal ordered to Royal Colors in 2014 , same shape of the bulb , but delivered with absolutely no roots.

should get both Ratatouille and Viridi Rascal (3 bulbs each) direct from sonatini.com by the end of March so I guess those have to be the "right ones"

Blanca and Jodi...sorry I haven't responded sooner but haven't been able to get on the computer due to vertigo. ugh! makes me sick. H Graffiti looks similar in color to H Graffiti except the Viridi Rascal has distinct picotee edging. My Graffiti does not have any. Another thing I noticed is the Graffiti had 4 flowers each year while the Rascal had 2 but maybe that is just my bulbs. Both bulbs were on the smaller size.

Keep in mind that "this supplier" is using the name of a Registered (trademarked) bulb and saying that it is synonymous with another separate bulb. The breeder of both named hybrids is not too happy about this!!

Maybe the breeder could provide realist commercial photos of both varieties , because the ones we can refer to are so strange and not realist.This would remove many ambiguities

I went to Keukenhof to see the flower show but I didn't buy anything because they had nothing new for sale there. I didn't allow me to buy anything because I'm running out of space here and I will order new bulbs in fall for sure to get blooms earlier than from my old ones...

I just ordered the mysterious Ratatouille/Viridi Rascal and the Sonatini mix from the same vendor like you, but they sent them to my friends house there. I'm going to plant the majority of them in my garden although I'm not sure yet if they can stay in the ground for the winter.

I saw some very interesting new hybrids at Keukenhof but they were not for sale. I'll post some pictures to share them with the folks on the forum (new things to dream of...) as soon as I have time to look through al the photos I took.

You have a very petty and colorful bloom and I think that one of my Ratatouilles kind of matches yours. I went through my pictures and apparently I never did get a Viridi Rascal to bloom for me, just the Ratatouilles!!

Yours is more colorful and mine run the gamut from pale to somewhat colorful! I do still have some Viridi Rascals but they don't seen to want to bloom!

Oops! I got so tired of my Viridi Rascal so capricious that I got rid of it ... reviewing the photos I regret a little but I want to try to focus on easy hybrids. I have enough complications with the species! A 'ratatouille' escaped my anger by chance, and I think it is pretty like everything but not yet in bloom ... in reprieve

My Ratatouilles are still fast asleep. This is their blooms last spring, their 2nd year with me. Definitely more beautiful than Viridi.

I thought I bought Ratatouille and Viridi Rascal last year (I guess it was 2 years ago)! I potted them together with one type in the middle of the pot and the other around the outside. Mainly, I wanted them side by side for comparison. I noticed that the center bulb rotted out this past winter... so, there will be no comparison for me. I checked back on my order... Ratatouille was the middle bulb, surrounded by 3 Rascals. I do have some scapes that are starting. At least I'll finally get to see a bloom! I think Graffiti will bloom this year too.
