Avocado Sapling Help

I live in Michigan and have been growing a avocado tree from seed. Once potted I will keep it outside in the summer and bring in during the winter months. Attached is a picture of my sapling, it's finally sprouted after 6 months and leaves have been forming over the past month. It is currently 4 inches tall. I've seen conflicting reports online about when to pot in soil. One report states to pot now, and then prune when growth continues. The other states to cut back once it reaches 6 inches and then pot in soil once it's reached another 6 inches. What is your opinion when to pot in soil?
