I love my King-size bed, but there's no way I'd have no nightstands (even if you put lamps on the wall, I need my nightstand for glass of water, alarm, Kindle, and other miscellaneous items).

I have a king bed in a 12'6" wide room. Is your headboard wider than mine (81")? The chest on the right is 31" wide. I had one the same width on the other side and swapped it out to try this table. Will put the other chest back.

I know this is trying to have one's cake and eat it too, but is there really no other wall in the room on which the bed could go?

Subtracting the width of a smallish kind bed (78") from 10 feet gives me 42". I could picture doing a narrow 15" nightstand on the door side and a 24" nightstand on the wall side.

I've always liked the IKEA helmer and a friend uses this for both her nightstands. With wall mounted sconces.

Are you absolutely sure you can't fit the bed and nightstands in 13' of space? My king bed and two nightstands fit on a wall that is 14'2" long, and there is still a good deal of room left on either side of the nightstands. My furniture is very large too.

If it's just not possible, then I'd still keep the king bed but downsize the nightstands, or as has been shared above, use two non-matching pieces that will fit. I gotta have my king bed, but I also need a table on either side to hold my "stuff"!

I have to have a night table. I need a place for my lamps my books, and Kindles. I do think I would re-measure though as others think it's doable. I don'y have first hand knowledge because my bed is Queen size.

I slept in a queen-sized bed for many years, and now in a king-size the last 9 years and could never, ever go back. I would go to great lengths to make it work. However, the only things I have on my nightstand are a skinny lamp, a small Chinese bowl, a clock and at night a glass of water.

What is the exact measurement of usable wall space the bed will be going on? You say there's a door on the wall. Does the 13' include the door?

Ditto to Mimi. Go with very narrow nightstands -- just large enought for a small alarm and glass of water and use and sconces for reading lights. A drawer or shelf below for other stuff -- books, nightly meds etc..

A king size bed is 76" wide; a doorway is 36" (usually) which gives you a total of 112". A 13 ft wall is 156" wide. It seems you could get some kind of tables (two 18"-20"?) to fit into that 44" or you could get creative, which is what I'd do before I gave up my king size bed:

I had a client who used two 18 inch bathroom vanities, she paid less than a hundred dollars total.

cawaps, we bought very similar bookcase headboards from Pottery barn for the kids when we were transferred to Tokyo. First night in the apartment (and the bed) youngest son flings his head back and cracks his head open. Trying to find medical help in a strange new country, without knowing the language ... one of those experiences you never forget! DS got 8 staples in the back of the head, at the closest hospital, by a doctor that had done some studies in the US and spoke just enough English. That was also the night that we found out that a napping Tokyo taxi driver will not interrupt his break for anyone's medical emergency!

I have to have both. There are some extremely narrow tables out there. I know because I had to find 2 for the RV. Just put the measurements in Google it will find them. I was amazed at how many there were. I have eyeglasses and a water bottle that are a must on a bedside table. I did think of the wall shelf which you can get in just about any size, have them made. I have a queen bed in the RV and really wish it was a king because we are so used to our king.

I had also found a neat little pocket pouch that attaches under the mattress and hangs down on the side of the bed. Perfect to slide a tablet into or a book. No help for water or a clock.

You you folks warm my heart! I wasn't clear, see if below helps. The 13 ft marked wall is the bed wall. Two nightstands that match the new bed will block the bath entrance walkway. The bed chosen after lots of hunting but not purchased is 85 wide.

The bathroom door is on the same side as the entrance door? Why can't the bed go with the head on the top wall (sideways to the window?)

Something has to give ... don't center the bed on that wall, scoot it over to the right towards the windows, with just enough room for a small nighstand. You'll have enough room on the left side for another small nightstand and walkway to the bathroom.

A king size mattress is 76 inches wide. So my first step would be to not get the 85 inch wide bed and go for a simple headboard that is no wider than the bed. I would put the bed in front of the windows.

I'd float the bed toward the view windows like this, with a shallow backing bookcase or something for the headboard. Lie in bed and admire the view.

Chispa, how horrible! But I'd like to think that grown-ups wouldn't make the same mistake. We had no issues in the 10 years we had that bed. Although I did live in fear of having one of those bankers lamps come down on my head during an earthquake (I took precautions).
