It seems to me that the taxonomists some times do work that is not needed and avoid work that is needed. Epidendrum was an early name for any non terrestrial orchids by the English. So the most work needed by taxonomists in my limited view is to clear up all the epidendrums. Please. And don't worry about stuff that is just fine, like shoms...
