Ray thanks especially for posting the pic of H. neopardinum x psittacinum. I bought a bulb at the same time as the H. reginae x neopardinum cross but it is not even showing a bud at this time - so at least I know how beautiful it should look. I have H. psittacinum and have noticed that it prefers a drier environment than neopardinum and wondered if my high humidity environment was slowing it down. Did you buy both crosses at the same time? Also, does San Remo have a scent? - J

I'm really liking the looks of Maryanne and revelation. But...... They are all beautiful. I like the idea of the raised beds. I might try one and see how it goes. The soil here is very acid red clay. Nothing does well in the ground. Ray your hippi's are gorgeous in the ground and I want mine to look like that. I'll start with a small bed and see how it goes.

Here in Houston with our clay soil, raised beds is the only way to go. I bought the colored concrete bricks from the box stores. I like them because I can easily change the shape of the bed if I need to, This year I used preen on the beds for the winter weeds and it worked wonderfully.

Yes, Flamenco Queen is a beauty! I have one that will be opening in a few weeks but the bud is small so I only expect 2 flowers at the most.

This is one of my favorite "miniatures" and your's is beautiful!!! I have a dwarf growing version striatum that I obtained from Telos Bulbs in the U.S. and my hope is to cross it with other smaller growing hippies. I love the larger ones but space is becoming a rare commodity and I just want to have some smaller hybrids. As you've probably heard, I'm an absolute nut for the minis :-)))

this was bought as Dancing Queen but looks very pale (pattern might be right)

bought as Minerva, again very pale, more towards orange shade and the white is not white :-O

this has no tag at all, the color is close to that of Lagoon but flower is much bigger. Actually it is biggest flower I've ever got :-) Over 20 cm

Michal, is your pink NoID scented? Or your Lagoon? I have a pink mislabel that had a light scent (like Appleblossom) and had huge flowers too. In fact everything on this hippi is huge, bulb, buds, leaves and seedpods. It gave me 14 flowers on 3 scapes and I thought it was Lagoon but if your Lagoon is smaller I don't know if that is right.

Your flowers and your pictures a beautiful! I doubt that this double is Dancing Queen. Could it be another Double Record?

Giraffe ?

It's similar to Oriental Lady but I think yours has darker stripes. Similar though but I'm not sure it's Giraffe.

Actually, now that I look again I suppose it could be Giraffe. It's very pretty what ever it is..

What a coincidence, yesterday i went to get a new cast and stopped at a nursery on our way back and I saw that flower....i have some plants blooming, althought they are not hippies.

This is Rebecca and I fear that it will be the last Hippi to flower this season if my Sonatinis continue growing nothing but roots. It's not spectacular but very very nice and actually better than on all photos I've seen (including this one). It looks fresh like peppermint candy and has a sweet scent. And tomorrow there will be 9 flowers open at the same time. I'm in love with Rebecca :-)

I have a few Autumn Pink Ladies which I received when I thought I was buying Autumn Rose Lady. I guess I'd have to see them blooming side by side to tell the difference. And those leaves....!!!!

I just received Autumn Pink Lady and Hoshi No Ohji last week and now I'm (im)patiently waiting for the beautiful leaves to start growing...I can't wait!!!!

Several days ago I thought I'd try a Hoshi No Ohji but they're taking their time to process the orders these days. No matter, I know it will get here eventually. Yours will most likely be growing leaves by the time mine makes its appearance.

One of my older Autumn Pink Ladies is sending up a gorgeous striped leaf!!! You're gonna love them!! A flower would be nice too, but the leaves are a special treat all in themselves....☺☺

These came from Komoriya. They were listing them off and on for a while and at $20 a bulb for a buy it now I thought at that price I should hedge my bets and buy another.

I don't currently see them listed but if they do relist them I'll try to let you know.

You just have to keep looking these days....sometimes they list these bulbs in the middle of the night for me, and by morning they're gone!

Hi Donna,

Mine came with absolutely no roots to speak of, were yours the same? I actually trimmed the basal plate on Autumn Pink Lady, applied some rooting hormone and let it dry for a couple of days. The others, I just scraped the basal plate to expose some of the tissue and also applied some rooting hormone. I've done this in the past with rootless bulbs and I think it helps them root a bit quicker. Any other mad scientists out there doing this?

I think the one I just purchased had a few stubby roots but I just went to check and this is what I found!! Love to see those nice big fat white roots!! This bulb is on its way!! I just got this on May 23!

In my experience with the Komoriya bulbs that I've purchased the last year or so is that they are coming in much better condition. They always looked good but they wouldn't do anything for ever! These days, most seem to root without too much coaxing which is a nice change. I find myself rebuying several of the ones I especially liked that never did much the first time around.

Very very beautiful seedling!

I am one of the few members of the forum who noted not only the merits but also the shortcomings of the seedlings. The main feature of the descendants of papillio that they give as an ancestor of 2 flower on a sсape.
It is very difficult to obtain offspring with 4 flowers.
It is better to ask Hans (Haweha) - how he managed to get a many-flowered offspring.

This seedling is yet to show what is in it. My experience is that papilio parentage just SHIFTS the likelihood towards 2-3 florets per scape. An excellent example is "Giraffe" (which is supposed to be a DIPloid hybrid with H.evansiae) which will mostly produce 3 florets from an average-sized bulb, but it CAN produce 5 florets from a "good" (bigger) bulb. As to progeny of crossbreeding with TETraploid pollen on H.papilio I have the example "PapDon1" which produced 5 florets as its "maiden" bloom (=first bloom of a seedling) but it will yield 2 florets only - on a smaller bulb.
