Do you have a humidity gadget? Perhaps it is too arid in the sunroom if you are warming up air of polar origin. Also, maybe the temps are dipping at night. Recommended range is something like 60 to 90F.

Sorry, Arthur. We must have been writing at the same time. I'm sure his room is too cold for the Phals. I had a sunroom like Bills in NY. I could not keep Phals out there over winter, much too cold at night, then sudden rise in temps during a sunny day. Just not a good environment for orchids...although the Masdes love it and most cool growers did fine.

Arthur, I don't use any artificial heat. The humidity level stays around 50-60% in winter, and many other (not orchids) plants do fine, so I don't think humidity is an issue. However, as with other posts here, it seems that the cool temps are not suited for phals. Weston, I generally water lightly about once a week if the medium is dry below the top 1-2 inches. Standard orchid medium provides good drainage. It seems that the general consensus here is that the sun room is too cold. I do have east facing windows that are in the heated area of the house, so maybe I will try again. Thanks to all for all the information!

Bill, an East window is perfect.

It is the cold, however in the spring/summer it might be a perfect place for them if you have good air circulation. You can leave them out there until they spike. Since the room isn't heated, in the Fall the temps will drop and should initiate spikes.

Once you see spiking, bring them inside the warm house and they will flower for you. The room is just too cold to carry them over the winter.
