How was the brick distressed?

Hi I really need details on how this antiqued look was achieved on the brick. There are so many techniques and I like the look that allows the brick to show through. Thank you

Hi Joanne,

The distressing was natural. The building is just over 100 years old. There was plaster over the brick. Over the years the white from the plaster left residue on the brick. We just cleaned a bit of it off with water to get what you see here.

Beautiful work! Did you use anything other than water? Any mortar repair? Any sealer afterwards? We want to do the same thing in our 78 year-old home.
