stevie, do you have a compost pile of your own? If you do, you could probably find some redworms in that, especially if you regularly add veggie scraps. That's how I got started in vermicomposting. I had a bin with an open bottom on bare ground to which I added my coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. One day when I was adding some stuff I did a little digging around to see how well the material was composting. To my surprise it was loaded with redworms just below the surface. Guess they had just found their way up thru the pile from the native ground beneath the bin.

Another good source (from what I've read) is to have a look in any moist pile of old horse manure (the manure that is.....not the horse!) Check out a site called NW Redworms. I believe his farm is in Camas, Wa. He has a video there where he is hauling out loads of redworms from somebody's pile of horse manure. good luck

I wanted to "start small" as well. I found Red Wigglers for sale at PetSmart. I don't know what Pet Stores you have in your part of the country, but you might have success there. I think they stock them as live food for some kind of critter, as they were in the same area as the meal worms and the crickets. Not out on a shelf- I had to ask for them.
