Container grown figs should be root pruned every so often. Look up Youtube videos on how to do it and make sure you're pruning it on top as well to give it shape and maximize fruiting. The online fig forums have lots of photos and videos about these sorts of topics as well.

SP, thanks for the link. My concern about root (and/or branch) pruning now is that it is no longer dormant, as shown in the photo.

personally i would be a lil cautious about root pruning that tree since it is no longer dormant. as for the pruning the branches, go for it. i would however repot it into a much bigger pot but try not to disturb the roots. if anyone on here has root pruned a tree that is not dormant please chime in.

Mistake i made years back when root pruning large plants (dormant season) i forgot to top prune one of them my hardy chicago.

That growing season it dropped half its figs, hardy chicago at the time was 8 years old and never dropped figs otherwise.

Can only imagine one root pruning during growing season which is a no no cutting off roots cuts off the way nutrients distributed topside and would set tree back for the season its only logical.

Thank you every body for the comments. I think I will put it in a bigger container without any pruning at all and root and branch prune when it goes dormant in the fall.
