Yeah, I wouldn't do anything to them now or in the near future.

Look up Kolkwitzia, aka Beauty Bush.

Callicarpa is known as Beauty Berry and has purple berries.

Both need very little pruning unless planted in a place where they don't have enough room, a common mistake.

Beautybush, Kolkwitzia, is one of those caning spring flowering shrubs that blooms on second year growth so if you DO need to prune, it is best done immediately after flowering, not before. And I tend to agree with Mike - these are not shrubs that often require pruning, usually left to grow to their own (and often rather large) devices :-)

when looking for info ... google up the latin name.. and use that to search ... it really gets you better info ;..

not to mention ... your reliance on the common name.. has confused those above ... because they are so similar ...

when in doubt.. always defer to pruning after blooming ... many flowering shrubs ... SET their buds the prior fall ... so if you prune early ... oh well ... see you next year ... especially on shrubs that bloom early ...

if they are late blooming plants ... then odds favor that they grow the buds in spring ... so you can prune early ...

trying to give you a gut feeling for these things.. wouldnt be surprised if some snobs come in.. and want to argue with my attempt ...

finally ... not many shrubs NEED to be pruned.. just for the sake of pruning ... there is usually a reason for doing such .... the way you state your premise.. makes me think that you think it needs to be done.. just for the sake of doing it ...

I just wanted to add that after a hard winter, there is so much die back on the Callicarpas that it's best to cut them to stubs. In fact, I do this most years.

The OP hasn't confirmed what species these are but I think the general consensus has been that these are Kolkwitzias rather than Callicarpas. Hence the comments about the importance of using botanical names.
