Possibly a weevil, review:

http://bugguide.net/node/view/109995

this particular weevil can be under 1/4" in length.

try also

Beneficial nematodes are one method of controlling weevils, there are faster-acting methods also.

Are you sure you have to get rid of them?

Do they jump?

I didn't see them jumping and would like to know what they are first. If they are beneficial or they pose no danger to the plants, I won't remove them.

But first I need to know what are they.

Btw, they don't look like the weevil. They are way smaller. And I'm in pacific NW, and not FL.

But your blurry image could possibly be a weevil, by appearance. How small are your potted insects? Are they way smaller than 1/4", or rather are they way smaller than the typical black weevil in the PNW? Get a picture against a darker background, use a coin for scale.

A potted avocado plant may have originally come from a warmer location.

It's a terrible picture.....get us a better one and perhaps we can guess again.

Sorry for the picture, it is not easy to take a picture of an insect smaller than an ant!

I will try to take a better picture and repost it.

Chill the insect so it is not moving; position the camera and use the self-timer rather than hand-holding it.

Ants are not a good scale reference because they come in many sizes, but the weevils I mentioned would be larger than most ants.

Tried to get better images, but are really small these things.

So, hope this video helps.

Yes, that does help. Compare yours to video in this webpage:
