Is this lamp too big?

I found this arc lamp at Goodwill today and I like it in that it's interesting, but I'm not sure if it's too big or if it's okay. What do you think?

I think it looks super, you have a fantastic eclectic look which is not easy to achieve and yet looks comfortable. I'm a fan.

It's floaty and ethereal and has no mass. It's great!

Lol Tibbrix! I hadn't thought about that lamp but you are right. I love that lamp. Maybe I can switch it with another one. I'll switch it and take a pic.

Thanks for the validation on the arc lamp. My family (led by DH) keep making fun of it and pretend hiding under it and calling it a lamp cave.

Okay Tib what about this? Is the tall lamp too big next to the couch?

    That first pic is squished.

    Perfect! Much better, IMO.

Love the arc lamp, and I like the new location for the table lamp (the lower side table offsets its height a bit, but it should still be a good height for reading on the sofa).

It looks pretty good to me, fits into the size of the room and decor.

This is completely off topic, but being someone who loves art I noticed the picture over your couch and the two prints under glass that are much too close to it. I think the large picture would look best by itself, especially since the prints have no relation to the picture and actually take away from it. You have such a nice room and I think you'll find it looks even better without the side pictures. I'm sure they'll look very nice somewhere else. Oh, I just looked at the mantel and see the same problem, the two small pictures very close to the mirror. May I suggest that you try removing them just to see how it will look with just the mirror and the two other pictures? I hope you don't mind my mentioning this; I know it's off topic and I don't mean to offend. The lamp, by the way, looks like something you'd find in a high-end store.

Aren't those arc lamps supposed to go behind the corner of a sectional?

Trust your gut, it looks great. The arc lamp works and my preference is for the original table lamp.

Love the lamp and your space!!! What paint color did you use on your walls?

"My family (led by DH) keep making fun of it and pretend hiding under it and calling it a lamp cave." -- are we married to the same man? Definitely sounds like something mine would do after he got done pointing out my lamp addiction.

LOVE the arc lamp, and thought it was OK where you have it; but once you posted your great sectional, I really think it belongs behind the curve of that great sectional!

Also I agree with Ingrid about the art behind the sectional. I might move the arc lamp to behind and just have the larger painting and call it great.

Such a good room overall! Really interesting things collected in that room. Pretty wall color too.

I agree with Chispa -- that arc lamp is designed to go behind the sectional. I feel it looks unbalanced popping out from behind the trunks and leaning over to the blue patterned chair. I like the lamp - just not the placement.

i am going to be the dissenting vote on 2 counts. i agree with others that an arc lamp goes behind a sectional, not placed on its own. it just looks out of place in that corner. secondly, the finish (silver) doesn't really go with the rest of the room. you have such a warm room, golds-browns-creams and greens and then throw in bright silver., it just doesn't flow in my world. its too jarring when its surrounded by warm colors. keep with the warm theme and your room is soft, warm and inviting... and i agree with ingrid about the pictures....... ....sorry :(

I also thought you meant the lamp with the shade and I think, yes, it's too big. Your room is gorgeous, but that lamp is a shouter and commands all the attention.

I just don't care for the style of the arc light, esp. in your room.

My son had/has the same lamp(now out in the garage since not in use)and he used it behind the sofa, though not a sectional, arching over it. Imo, the table lamp and arc lamp are too close together. Another reason to move it behind the sofa.

Is it functional or do you bang your head when you get up from the chair? If no, I like it where it is. It's cool.

Does the table lamp prevent people from interacting? It still seems a tad too big.

I'd also like to see the arc lamp behind the sectional. I prefer the original lamp you had on the table between the 2 chairs. The replacement is too bulky.

I tried it behind the sectional first but it is way too big. It hung over all the way to the coffee table and was hard to get underneath to sit down. But I agree that it makes a lot more sense there. In it's current location it does not get in the way of sitting in the chair.

I hear you on the pictures close together but I really like a collected busy wall. I would love to have every wall like this one. :)

My first thought was that it would be great between and over the two chairs, kind of spreading the light out above them, with maybe a vase or something else on the round table in place of the table lamp.

Oh that's a good idea! I'll try that when I get home. The only thing I can think though is that the arms area so long they will hang over the chairs. hmm

It's actually not silver. I think it just looks that way from the light reflecting off of it. It's actually that dark smoky glass from the 70's. It's not glass but it is the same color. Maybe I'll just move it to the basement.

Louislinus, when I started my picture wall in the old living room I purposefully hung the first 3 pictures unusually close together. I'm glad I did because as the years passed, it was fantastic! Some of my favorite pictures are taken from greeting cards I received in the mail. The ones that are just too pretty to throw away. Not a lot, but they make for great fillers.

Your arc lamp is perfect, imo. I used to work for an architect and your room has the same vibe his LR had.

Don't move it to the basement! It looks great -- you have your own style, which is not cookie-cutter, and I think it adds interest and looks really nice!

No don't move it to the basement it looks great. I like it where it is, it's not in the way or over powering anything. I like the lamps better now. Beautiful room.

If the arc lamp is going to stay in that corner, I also think it ought to be turned so it's shining over the two chair grouping, it's a cool lamp, just looks like it cuts off too much floor space stretching over to the single chair.

I love the lamp and love your art work placement as well! Such a unique room with a wonderful feel!!

I like Tibbrix's idea of having the arc lamp over two chairs instead of just one. What about moving the two chairs to the place where the single chair is now, with the arc lamp over them and switching the single chair to next to the window, maybe kind of under the starburst clock. Maybe you could use the chest to hold the table lamp next to it, or bring in a smaller table for the lamp and leave the round one between the two chairs.

I love your room, the wall color, the art, all of it!
