That is so true Gill, with the buds being produced late in summer. Especially in climates similar to ours.

I am so thrilled for you. These Adeniums do what they do and sometimes our intervention does not make them produce any different.

With the tree starting into production of buds now is definitely a good time.

Thanks Rick, yes I will certainly be posting a bit more now the season is kicking in again. I just hope we get a few more sunny days this year as 2015 was abysmal in many ways. I'm so glad the winter is over, I have positively hated my first one on my own in 40yrs.

Any flowers I consider a bonus as I really enjoy my trees with just a full compliment of leaves. Funnily enough, all of my seed sown guys have remained very leafy this winter, but in the case of the two from Brian, (the Ko Miraclex45 and a Dang Siri) these have once again been leafless, nonetheless, I find their bare sculptural shapes fascinating.

So it's fingers crossed once again and I won't be disappointed even if they are pink despite me definitely not being a 'pink person'!

Congrats, Gill! The flowers will mature for sure, now that it is so early in the growing season. Keep us updated.

I'm very pleased to report that bud development is progressing nicely on my plant. I think this year they will get to the critical opening stage before running out of energy/time/sunlight or whatever having started off earlier in the season instead of late summer.

Also, I discovered what I thought were embryo buds on one of its siblings last week. After a few more days growth, and the occasional ray of UK sun it's obvious that this one is also following in the footsteps of its older relative :)))) Maybe 2016 is the year of the Adenium...in my part of the globe anyway?

As far as I can recall, the seeds were bought as Noble Concubine and Star Of Luck, it's so long ago since they were sown. I have learnt that the chances of getting flowers like the advertised pics is very very remote, so, I guess they will both be the generic pink flower we often see. Whilst I am most definitely not a pink person, I can cope with them being any shade of pink, or indeed any shade of any colour! Lol!

So excited for you Gill. You know I think the "Pink" thing is over used. I am not a big pink flower person myself, but I have only 2 or 3 plants that bloom with shades of Pink and I am quite happy with them.

The second plant does have quite a grouping of buds at most terminal growth points. This will be a nice display.

Why on earth am I getting so excited at this prospect of flowering my own seed grown specimens I ask myself? It's not as though it's a rare occurrence is it! These plants just fascinate me so much. I have been captivated by them since that very first encounter on holiday in Bangkok with my late d/h back in 2005. Maybe that's why they hold such a special place in my heart.

It's my first job in the morning when I've crawled downstairs, open the curtains and check on them....and then I go to make my coffee! We have good weather forecast this week instead of the the cold rain, snow and hail of the past month, it will give everything a welcome boost. Glad to read I'm not the only nutter then, lol.

Think I need to contact GWeb and ask for a 'fanfare' button to be added to this site to let you all know when the grand event actually takes place!!! It's been a long time coming, the pesky seeds were planted in Feb 2008 after all.

Jerry, congrats to you too, but I bet your plants aren't 8 and a bit years old are they? Mine get the booby prize for taking so long! My own 3 offspring have long flown the nest, only to be replaced by grandchildren albeit some distance away, so yes, my plants do have that same 'check on them often' factor.

Nicholas, live streaming, now there's another thought. You need to contact GardenWeb's (sorry, I still think of this as GWeb, not Houzz!) Tamara as that was who I corresponded with to get the Adenium forum up and running :))))

The one of mine that is budding is just now 7 months old. It's an obesum planted 9/3/2015, and has grown to well over a foot tall in that time. It was the tallest of the bunch, and the only one I've repotted of that group. The caudex is already huge for its age, and it now has 3 small branches just above the caudex. I have some slightly older that haven't done anything yet.

If you don't mind, and anyone wants to see it. I'll take a pic.

Yes please, you know how we like to see pics. 7months old, that puts me in even greater shame, what a fantastic result :)

These were all taken just now. I took the opportunity to repot it!

This tree is huge for 8 months - I said 7 before. I recalculated the age. It is a bit over 18 inches from bottom of roots to top.

This is the one of the first batch of seeds that I cut the tap root on. Looking closely, the roots are all centipeded, and just need to be aligned and clean the small ones up a bit. All I did was cut the tap @ about 2 months, and put them back into the soil.I was so tempted to pinch this one, but it was growing so fast, I wanted to see what it could do! Below you'll see little buds - so we wait!

Your plants are so nice Gill, but I am particularly fond of the traits of the bottom one. I have some plants with a close grouping of leaves, but those are astonishingly close. Perhaps the obesum I posted will someday be a show-stopper, but at this point in time, it doesn't deserve to be on the same page with yours.

It is my opinion, but I am sure that others share it - Those of you who grow adenium in areas with little sun, and still produce beautiful plants as you do should be proud of your accomplishments. My genetically Goliath plant under a sub-tropical sun most of the year isn't near the accomplishment. I believe we all feel this way.

...now if only this one would begin to bud for me!

Your plant above is unusual isnt it? Will you keep the sprouts that are springing up lower down or are you going to remove them at some point? It's got a nice root structure and will look great when arranged and cleaned as you say, that will add even more to its dramatic lines. It has the look of what we know on the UK as a 'standard' grown plant, a form often given to roses, and other shrub like plants.....ones that are grown on a clear leg/stem with a branched head at the top. Please post pics when it blooms?

As for the coin...looks like one of our old pre decimal Sixpence coins? :)))

I'm not sure what I should do with this plant Gill. I have allowed it to grow naturally so far, but I'm not sure if that is a good plan for it for the future.

The coin is a quarter and it was the only one I could find at the moment. It was interesting because it is a "centennial" quarter minted with 1776-1976 as the date. It probably would have made more sense if the picture wasn't so blurry.

Jedoba, its actually a bicentennial. :-) I still save them when i find them in circulation.
