What type of shower pan did you use for this barrier free shower? Did you use an AKW pan?

No - this is a custom made shower pan prepared and waterproofed with Kerdi and Ditra.

We have had good success with Kerdi wall products - but I'm not familiar with Ditra - is this a base product?

I actually like the construction pictures. I like to see how things come together and the bones of things. I find it fascinating. It's something that a lot of people just don't think about. So many people probably have no idea what goes in to making a good shower, so I find it enlightening and it helps me to appreciate the work that goes in to it.

Heres a link to an installation video you may want to check out zannej

Thanks. My connection isn't letting me stream videos right now-- it's barely letting me load Houzz-- so I'll make a note to watch it later when my internet isn't being throttled.

Zannej - I will also provide you a link to a glass block shower page that will also show the installation steps in images vs. having to run a video

Wow Innovate Building Solutions! Seriously you recommend silicone to fix the blocks together? What a joke. http://innovatebuildingsolutions.com/products/glass-block/glass-block-shower

In trying to make your product more appealing you are designing crappy finished products.

I would avoid any block manufacture with specs like yours. Seeing your install specs I would also never install your product. At least until such time as you outline a proper glass block wall installation....

Your post(s) above on my picture showcase your lack of knowledge in the shower industry. I would guess your job at Innovate Building Solutions is "Social Media" not "Shower Construction".

John - the silicone in our system is used to adhere the glass block sections together - then the sections are field grouted together. This system has been used successfully for over 10 years. Our company started out as an off-shoot of a masonry company and we used to do all of our installations with the block by block method with panel reinforcing and panel anchors between the blocks. We still do use this method (on occassion) when we cannot use a consistent joint sizes between the blocks. There are many advantages to this method (you can find them on the link below if you want to check it out)

If you'd like to check out the videos on our site you can see the installation process in action - our company has been doing glass blocks since 1977 and we believe we use the best processes available in the market. If you look at the images on our Houzz profile you'll find many finished pictures using our system - we think they look nice and we have a good number of customers who have enjoyed working with us.

John - the best of success to you.

John - you will also find that the system we use is also recommended by manufacturers like Pittsburgh Corning.

Thanks again, Innovate Building Solutions. I'm trying to load the page now. It's going slow, but I can see some pictures already.
I really don't know jack about what adhesives are right for the job and such so I won't comment on that. From what I see, it looks pretty.
I will have to do the measurements and see if I will actually have enough space to use the blocks in the bathroom I want to renovate. I'd have to have to use a flimsy shower curtain, although that may allow for more flexibility in terms of a person moving around in the shower.
Ooh, I like the colored blocks. Does it cost more to have the blocks frosted?

I did a crappy mockup of what I would like to do with the space-- I used Sims 3 for the creation so I couldn't get the proportions right. It's about half a tile wider than the actual area so the size isn't quite right.

Zannej - feel free to call me so we can discuss the specifics of your project. The colored blocks are nice - yes they are more expensive than the clear units.
