i think in if the house was built in 1960 the new cabinets would be wood or else metal. my grandmother had white..but that was because her kitchen was built in the 20s and by the time i recall it (60s) they were painted white to cover 40 years of wear.

the farm house i grew up in (a true farm house, not this ridunculous style popular now) had in the 60s a mixture of wood and metal cabinets, with rubber bandy formica counters over the top.

(but my mom did have danish modern furniture in the living room).

Im not apposed to painting the cabinets either.

acm, wow, thank you!! to answer your questions. I just don't like the floor is all. To me not MCM at all. I think was installed to freshen up the kitchen when it was on the market before I bought it...the countertops are original to the kitchen they are white with gold flecks in them...but are wearing out sadly. I like the sleek look streamlined.

tedbixby, yes Im pretty sure mine were pine before being painted. Cause I would have left them pine. I have thought of black and white floor yes. And colorful top as well.
