Agree, interesting. We have a path into our small woods and just refer to it as "the path into the woods" which is rather cumbersome.

The closest I could find when looking up alle'e, was allee, a "landscape avenue". From wikipedia:

It's just my punctuation throwing you off. You said you could find no reference to what I had written, but omelet proceeded to show us a definition. I guess that accent mark is the culprit. In any case, close but no cigar maybe?

Look up what littlebugs suggestions are in french? I don't know, but I do like Portico. I think it's Italian btw. That's an easy guess. I would say " the peaceful place", it sounds stupid, but, maybe see what it is in another language. When I walk into the woods, I feel like I'm in a peaceful place. But, it doesn't just roll off the tongue, in English, and likely won't in any other language. Dave Collins, I'm gonna guess your British descent, maybe see what it means in Celtic or Scottish, or anything you choose. I'm just trying to think of ways to think outside of the box. Sorry, if you want something simpler, but, I gotta ask, Dave Collins, why do you want to get this new Moniker for a woodland entrance? It sounds pretty interesting, if you don't mind sharing.

Portico is primarily an architectural term and emphatically not appropriate for a woodland. Arbour...although a small enclosed woodland sitting space, does imply something more woodsy than any traditional building term.

Woodland passage is what springs to my mind.

My friend who is over my house now said "new realm", I say, perhaps "peaceful passage" slightly stealing from mommapudding. I just feel peace when I enter a wooded area.

I think something with the term 'passage' is perfect.

The more I think of it mommapudding has it right woodland passage seems perfect. Unless you want to get hippie-like and try fairies-realm, or gnomes wood. Fairies wood.

I think if the OP wanted a simple word that describes what the entryway into a forested area is, maybe just say a "woods", an entry into a place cleared of trees is a "clearing". As for the actual entryway itself, other than"'portal" or portico or passage, I can't imagine what anyone can come up with.
