Lonely Koi?

I had 3 koi in a pond together for several years. Last year i had a problem w predators getting the fish. I have one left. He is all black with just a small silver streak on his back. I think he could hide better so didnt get eaten lol. He has been alone for a year now. I want to get him a friend but now he has reached about 14 inches. Most of the koi and even goldfish in the stores here are in the smaller range. Like 6 inches and under. Would he eat a 6 inch fish? What size could i get away with?

I have several LARGE koi (25 lbs) and last year I put in a baby koi. That koi is now 10 inches. I had no problems with the large koi trying to get it. But there should always be a place for all koi to hide.

Wow that's amazing. I thought for sure they would eat the little ones.

I do have tons of mosquito fish in the pond, so I don't know if they are eating those. When I throw fish food in there, all the little mosquito fish swim around the food. When the koi go to open their mouth to eat the food, they get some of the mosquito fish as part of their meal.

Most adult koi won't eat a baby koi that's larger than 4" or so. For some reason they seem to recognize them as koi at that point. But having some nooks or areas for the small ones to hide in isn't a bad idea.
