Pruning is not a requirement for this vine. And since it is only borderline hardy in your climate, I doubt it would need any except to remove any dead wood that might be apparent. That can be done at any time but any other, more severe pruning should be after the late spring/early summer bloom cycle.

My climate is listed wrong at zone 4, should be zone 5. For some reason I've been unable to edit it. Does this change your post, with the correct zone?

Not at all :-) Most sources only list hardiness to z5 so still borderline in your area. But again, not a vine that needs routine pruning. I'd only consider cutting back if vine grew too rampantly or too large, which it is very inclined to do in warmer climates.

Ford8nn, if you want to change the zone:

Go to Your Houzz in the upper right of every page, click Edit Profile, and on the left side click advanced settings. Well down the advanced settings page is a blank labeled Climate Zone for Garden Forums where you can change the zone. Then return to the top of the page and click Done Editing.
