The name 'Ruby Glow' used to be the name for P. alata 'Ruby Glow', a cultivar of P. alata. It was renamed P. Phoenicia a number of years ago. This plant is a warm loving passiflora, so planting it in full sun should not be a problem.

But, if you get a newly rooted cutting that is only a couple of inches tall, then I would definitely keep it in a pot until it gets to be several feet tall. This will mean putting it into a one gallon pot for a while and maybe even moving it up into a larger pot. I would keep this small plant in shade until it reaches a foot or more in height and then gradually move it into a full sun position.

Don't try fertilizing the plant until it is a couple of feet tall, unless you use a complete slow release fertilizer. Good luck!

Wow! I HAVE a HUGE lady Margaret on my fence now! It replaced the Ruby Glow, when i gave up TRYING to find Ruby Glow. It took the past 2 years to find one that isnt 2in long! It is now the 50 foot passion vine and is massive. Maybe I can plant them together and they can intertwine,after I get Ruby Glow to get some length on it??! I didnt even know it was a Lady Margarat ,till I looked up the flower online, I got it at Lowes 2-3 years ago in a 2 gallon pot, for like $10. This small Ruby Glow is costing me $25. BUT if it lives, i know it will grow massive and bloom great to...its getting it to take and grow that is the problem....thanks for the info

(Since I am not getting anything from her again, I can tell the truth about the 'Ruby Glow' seller...I am sure she is reading this column). Well.. she cancelled my order, without telling me. I wrote to her to ask for a tracking number...(I saw the tracking number on her website, and that the order was cancelled)! Much to my shock, so I asked whats up?. Never wrote back!

This 'woman' holds a grudge I guess, she wont tell me why she cancelled the order. But I ordered like 2 Ruby Glows from her YEARS ago, they arrived as 3in rooted cuttings, and died within a week of arrival. I complained about it, and since then she has been a bit-h. Guess you cant complain about expensive plants dying SO fast. BUT she takes my money when I order hard to get seeds.

Thought she got over MY being mad at the lack of quality in her plants/cuttings, and the high prices...but guess not. In business cash is cash, I thought.

So...I got around her by ordering my vine through a friend. MY Ruby Glow will arrive in 1-2 days. 'Georgia Vines' is the place, and Lori is the bit-h! ( Amazon wants over $40 for a rooted cutting ,not including shipping. THAT is WAY to much!) Someone mentioned Amazon. Hope this one is more than 2in long, and lives more than a week. Last shot at it now! But only she has it to sell, so I have to risk it.

Also bought a Passiflora 'Grandillia', the passion vine that grows the HUGE passion fruit. Like football size. Looks identical to 'Ruby Glow', from a seller on EBay, from upper Fla.

Maybe it will grow and thrive here in south Fla. Don't know if it is self fertile or needs some other variety to cross and get fruit, but I will find out I guess. Thanks for the help. I will show you what arrives, then if it blooms, show the blooms!

I think I paid 12 for the plant and 12 for shipping from Amazon. I believe I ordered two and the shipping stayed the same.

well i just looked and someone is selling 'rooted cuttings for $49.95 not including shipping. I JUST got my cutting from Georgia Vines...got around her nasty attitude, by ordering through a buddy. Still selling 4in rooted cuttings. But at least I have one. Maybe ill see a flower in 5 years. Boy, you'd think for $25 it would be at least a foot long. But she is still selling 4in. ones. Maybe my 'Grandillia' passion vine will be much bigger. Heres a pic. of my Ruby Glow.

Hi. i wanted to post a picture of the Passion vine I got from EBay, a Passioflora 'Granadilla', or 'Quadrangularis'...it is over a foot long. A huge plant compared to my tiny Ruby Glow. The leaves are HUGE, boy if i get this to grow/live, it will be a giant!!!, like it is suppose to be.

I guess you all know about this variety,but it is my first try at growing it. since it has nearly the exact same bloom as Ruby Glow, i assume they are related closely???

Does anyone know if it is self fertile, or does it need some other variety to get the giant fruit it produces??

It is in a small pot and is root bound, got to pot it up in about a week, after it is acclimated to Fla. It is about to let go with a lightning/rain storm here, got to log off.

By the time i get flowers, i will be ten years older. My other 'Alata' that I got, is much bigger and is actually growing! Like a passion vine....FAST! It is the 'Giant Granadilla', that produces the huge passion fruit ,fruit! But if i get any, i will post them.
