Wow, that was a really nice post Garden Nut. Loved your old photos. Most ogr's are really easy to root. Pick up some rooting hormone it's not necessary but does help a little. I do soft wood cuttings. When your baby grow a bit use a stem that has just finished blooming. Take about a 6 inch cutting put it in a glass of water right a way. Now if the moma rose is large enough to block the sunlight you can stick it in the ground right behind her. Make sure your cut is right below a growth node. Take off the bottom sets of leaves. Leaving only 2 to 4 leaves on the cutting. Poke a pencil in the ground and remove it. Then put in the cutting to bury two growth nodes. If the ground is moist from spring thats all you do. They can't handle much water at this point. Or use the north side of your house just so the cutting is not getting direct sun. Then leave it alone you'll know if it roots when it begins to grow. Then you can dig it up and place in a pot if you have dry summers.

Another thing that will work is to take a slender stem. Make a little trench to bury the middle of the stem. You can use a wire peg to hold it down. Let a little of the end stick out. It takes longer but the stem well root. I leave mine buried for the whole growing season here. Once it roots cut it off from the mother plant and it will sent up a new plant.
