Are these true dhofranese species?

As far as I know, Yes and I do trust my friend. We will know more by their leaf in time.

OOA has one seedling of this species for $35! I don't get why it's that expensive, but, whatever. Probably because they had to trek the near-barren wilderness of Oman to get the seeds. It's not even in the Catalogue of Life! I got zero results from an image search. Dimmit has photos of them in habitat though.

They are sitting like little balls on top of the mix, leafless. Remind me of the True Soco's when I first started growing them. Still nice and firm and thinking they may have similar habit as you Mark had mentioned to me about the true Soco's.

I received the seeds in trade from a friend in Europe. He did not have any left after the ones he sent to me.

How did seedlings go from having nice leaves in March 2016 (your photo) to no leaves in August 2016? What happened? Is that characteristic of 'dhofarense' Oman? It seems unusual for summertime but maybe not. I'm unfamiliar with this variety. They sure are/were cute!

Carol, A friend here on this group had mentioned that the True Socos will typically be dormant through out the summer and start regrowing in late summer.

It must be a triggered dormancy in the genetics. The True Socos that I started quite a few years ago did much the same thing and then started to take off (for true Socos).

These little guys, being the dhofarense. Are still very small although more ball shaped, but not putting on much growth. Time will tell.

Great looking seedlings... What are dhofranese? I've been out of the growing game since October 2016 and just started getting back into it after a trauma I had with loosing my plants. I've never heard of this dhofranese variety before. I saw a seedling on eBay and this is only the second time I've heard of them? They don't happen to be cold hardy? lol

Ryan, The A. dhofarense 'Oman' is a species found growing on the Oman Arabian Penninsula, Dhofar coast.

Would not consider so much a cold hardy and moist loving species.

They are exceedingly slow growers and do hold some of the largest leaves in the Genus, outside of the A. boehmianum.

You know Marica. I baby sat them for so long and they sat there like little balls on top of the soil. Would leaf out, but never grew much.

I know that this species is a very slow grower and their dormancy period different than many. I should have been more patient, but after 2 years. I forgot about them and they withered up.

My nova 'Tanzania, Swazicum, Boehmianum, true soco's are doing well, which makes me very pleased.
