Oh wow! That is a heart breaker. Is nothing salvageable? Somethings will bounce back even from a hard freeze but I'm sorry to say most things won't. Our problems this year are field mice but their damage is minor compared to yours.

Might want to invest in a temperature alarm that sounds in the house. We have them in our greenhouses just in case of power outages or fuel line problems and they can be a real lifesaver.

Thanks Dave! Yeah, I think I'm still in shock....... Sad part is, in addition to a hoard of my seedlings, I had just received my Impatien plugs the day before & of course they're a total loss..... I don't use enough plugs to order from my wholesaler, so I had gone on Ebay & paid through the nose for those..... Not sure if I can salvage any of the seedlings at this point....

Been five years since I first came to this site for guidance from folks like yourself..... While I've learned a great deal, seems I've got a long way to go ......LOL

Funny you should mention the alarm........ It's been on my radar since I had a power failure a couple of years ago (with minimal loss)....... Got stung pretty good this time, so I'm off to Amazon to order that alarm.....

I (mostly) dodged a bullet....... Had Portulaca, Coleus & Zinnias seedlings, & a host of mature house plants in the GH & I've managed to salvage most of them....... I'd just gotten my New Guinea Imp plugs from Florida the day before & unfortunately they bit the bullet...........

OBTW......... That new temp monitor is on it's way........ Could have bought several of them for what I had invested in those plugs......... LOL..... We live & we learn & at my age, I need to hurry up my learning.............

Yeah I figured the plugs would be a lost cause. Too bad as they are expensive I know. Glad to hear so much of the other things could be salvaged

As we get older I find it is harder to roll with the punches life throws at us. But thanks to my dentist at least they can't knock my teeth out any more. ;-)

Oh well....... I went back on Ebay to bid more plugs & it seems a hoard of other like minded gardeners had the same idea..... This season is my first time buying plugs & I quickly found that I wasn't going to buy the second set of plugs for the same price as the first one that I had bought just a couple weeks earlier...... I think they call that adding insult to injury....... LOL.....

I can start most sun annuals without issue, but I'm located above the Kansas River where natural timber abounds & in my 40+ years here I've slowly lost much of my sun, despite my efforts to keep the timber at bay.... Starting shade annuals (ie, Begonias, Impatiens) have proven too much of a challenge for my novice ability, so I thought I'd give plugs a try..... Got off to a rocky start, eh Dave?
