Kim, I got this one on a trade a few years ago...its been through some tough times, lost over half the plant at one point and had to take a cutting and that survived luckily! Its a small plant so its pretty cool to see buds on it :o)

Puglvr, what kind of care regimen do you follow with this? I am planning on growing mine when I manage to get my hands on one semi hydro, but am interested in how you do things.

Hi Kim! I grow mine in an orchid (fine pine or fir bark) mixed with some potting soil and perlite/or coarse grit...its a pretty fast draining mix so the soil doesn't stay wet long...

I use 2/3 of this mix (Something similar to this) then I add about 1/3 potting soil to this mixture.

Also wanted to share that my Praetorii opened today...hopefully the rest of the buds will open in a couple of weeks :o)

What are the others waiting for, an engraved invitation ? At least they are not turning yellow or aborting like mine sometimes do. Those 3 singles look beautiful, though.

Kim, I grow this in my porch which is basically outside but it is screened in...I bring it inside the house when temps below 40 degrees which isn't that often here in FL,lol...

Marco, those other set of blooms developed a few weeks after the 3 were almost fully developed. Its a strange occurrence and nice surprise...

Almost 2 weeks later from that last picture...the other set of buds are growing nicely, Should be open in a few days (hopefully) :o)

Are they open yet? I am as excited for this as I am for my darn bella to finally open. I can see pink through the center, so cant be too much longer... in the meanwhile, my 2 javanicas are blooming like it is going out of style.

Wow, those are pretty flowers! I guess the first three were "practice flowers"! I love the color. I've had Hoyas push out buds behind a flowering peduncle - my kerrii does it some years...

Love your RHP photos! How old was yours when it first started blooming? I am sure mine will make me wait another year or so for blooms, but happy to enjoy yours until then!

Thanks Kim, I checked my records and it looks like it took about a year, give or take a month...believe me when I say I've had stubborn hoyas that I've had for years and I'm still waiting for blooms,lol...

It has been 2 weeks since I gave my H. bella MGBB, hit it again today. If that umbel of buds doesn't open soon I just may die of anticipation. The plant seems more interested in making more and more peduncles right now. Not complaining, but oh the wait, lol.

But ohhh, that is exciting news. Maybe I won't have to wait as long as I thought then. Meanwhile, another 10 years out on my carnosas. At least for the big ones, ahahahah.

Hoya darwinii...little windy that day, sorry its a little blurry,

I love darwinii, pug we clearly have the same taste in plants! I am really excited, I am getting a small rooted specimen of this soon from Aurorawa. Any tips? Other than say, move to Florida? ;)

Darwinii is awesome! And not as hard to grow as people make it out to be!

Although...mine seems to be doing the opposite of what most people say theirs does...no flowers as of yet, but growing like a weed. From what I have heard, it is supposed to be early blooming and slow growing.

Either way, it is a great plant. The foliage is excellent, the flowers are excellent, and as long as I can keep mine alive and happy, then I will be happy.

Its true about Darwinii, it is a slow grower even here in FL,lol...I pretty much keep it the same way as most of my hoyas, bright light and keep water well and then let it dry out. It is outside though most of the year hanging under some Oak trees...

Hi Nancy! I hadn't been on here in awhile and just saw your blooming praetorii!! Gosh I love the colors on it! I had something bloom like that once and Mike said it was a healthy plant just very excited to bloom quickly! That they sometimes do this but it's a sign of good health! I thought you may want to know!! It's a beauty too. I'm so glad you shared it.

Mine dropped its first set of buds on me already. Hopefully the humidity tray I put together for it today helps with that.

Ik this Post if 4 years old but if you see this I would love to know where you got your Hoya praetorii im also located in florida and have been looking for one for some time now.
