Paint area above fireplace same color as wall. Are you putting TV above fireplace?

Thanks - Yes - new tv is going above the fireplace. I am open to painting all the walls a new color- I agree they need to be the same- just feel that the beauty of the granite i& driftwood is lost with the brown.

I have thought about gray - I will pull some samples- thanks!

The right shade of Gray will give you a nice soft look. Green is also a great choice and you can use a shade like carole snet you or go softer, lighter, moss-green. Either way I'd try to bring more of the feeling of that stone out into the room. Natural elements like chunks of crystal, coral and prints of animals, birds (etc) will be a nice addition. If you want to stay in a more modernist vein, photos are a good thing to consider.

Thank you Jeffrey! Now that I am thinking about it, I have two walls in the room that are a grayish dark purple- so if I can firnd the right green it would make those pop better as well. Any suggestions on good paint brands to get a pretty green?

I use a very versatile color over and over again, and recommend it all of the time. it comes from Lowe's and the color is called LIMESTONE. I buy the valspar paint, and it is quite good. It just seems to work with everything. I found it when trying to find a good neutral paint to go with my autumn slate floors (which have everything from brown, to blue, to rust, to GRAYISH DARK PURPLE)...and then it ended up working in every other room I tried, then every other room I tried, and would.
If that color is too light, FIG is also a darker color that also worked well with my particular stone.

Beautiful fireplace! I'd use two or three shades of the gray in the stone, light for the bulk and maybe a darker gray for 1-2 accent surfaces. Then wi the brown walls coming up on the side, you hv the colors from the stone!

Other options since you have "grayish dark purple" are soft blues or violets. Benjamin Moore makes decent paint and a great environmentally friendly one. They have a purple gray called Smoked Oyster that works well with soft blues Lily White and Seattle Gray as well as soft violets Whisper Violet and White Heaven.

I "color picked" your fire place stone to get matching paint colors, starting with the Smoked Oyster. This is not the best way as color changes next to color and computer photographs and monitors are not reliable sources for the real thing.

Look for color in your stone that might work nicely with it. You can go lighter or bolder or grayer etc. Good luck.

There is a BM gray green called Moonshine, 2140-60, that might be a good starting point if you want to look at greens.

Before you go gray or choose your green, check out Benjamin Moore's green, called Georgian Green. You could also check out 'Gossamer Blue.' Both are historic / traditional colors and would set off your fireplace beautifully.

Benjamin Moore Preview is always my go to fan for gray greens. Sherwin Williams has my favorite warm grays.

I'm not a matchy matchy person and it's just my opinion but I really can't see green complementing that beautiful stone fireplace.

Came home with some testers today - Sherwin WIlliams Contented & Sagey - tomorrow off to Ben Moore- -thinking about scaling back the Contented color to 50%. Truly appreciate everyone that has weighed in! And also appreciate the kind comments about the fireplace- could have been easier if I had picked a green granite instead of a new paint color! :)

So, what did you choose ?

I think we are going with a Sherwin Williams Sage green, and accent the wall with their Coastal Pain. Haven't been home to finish, will post an updated pic this weekend. Thanks Everyone!!!
