If the hanging roots are getting mist and you have no wilting issues it doesnt really matter if the media dries out. The media acts as a safety net providing the plant with moisture until it can generate enough root area to make use of the mist. Once the plant is fully supported by the mist, the media has served its purpose and can be left to dry out. The added benefit is the dry stem versus being permanently wet, which can cause issues.
