Thanks, James. This hybrid does not seem to have much of a fragrance. It is a very faint floral scent at best. I have a suavis which has a very strong floral and citrus fragrance.

As for the culture, the suavis came in bud so I can not speak to its needs yet. I grow the Charles x ramonensis like an Oncidium for the most part. Intermediate light and temperature with ample water. My trichopilia are in sphag with some grow stone and tree fern. I let the sphag just dry on top before I water them again. I don't water consistently enough to pot these in a bark based mix.

You cannot have two names for a hybrid, but that seems to be the case here. Take as an example Dendrobium Delicatum which was found to be a natural Hybrid with the parents Dendrobium speciosum and Dendrobium kingianum. I suppose (only suppose) the convention is to label a wild collected orchid Den. x delicatum.

Something peculiar has happened in the case of this orchid where the Hybrid register entry for Trichopilia ramonesis only shows one species orchid in the parentage.

Hmm, that is very, very odd. I am not sure what to make of the missing second parent.

I agree with your opening comments on the natural and man made hybrids having the same name, except that the x denotes the natural hybrid. That was my understanding until I started looking up this trichopilia.

The other flower is open now.

Such an interesting plant. I'll wait to see how it grows over the year. Incredible flowers but wonder how difficult to grow.
