Old Story

Here is the first named plant I bought in 2014. It is BuckEye Extravaganza. It had grown a bit bigger several times, big enough for a leaf to be taken, then it expires.

This was grown from the last leaf from the last expiration.

Never Give Up, Never Say Die!

This is Starry Night Blue, a leaf from Joanne about the same time as the Buck Eye was purchased. It grew to flowering in six months and hasn't stopped. It did start flowering under the leaves but Aegis suggested less light. Now it is holding the blooms well above the foliage.

Thanks for posting a picture of your 'Starry Night Blue' from Joanne. I have a sibbling to it I started from a leaf from her & recently reported mine was blooming for the 1st time & had scoop leaves like a picture aegis posted of his. Your leaves are similar to mine - not spoons so I call them scoops. Yours are a little ruffly too, mine aren't. My largest flower was 2 1/2" across & looked just like yours. I don't have a way to post a picture but I'm so glad you did. Thanks, Trudy

I have restarted that Buckeye 3 or 4 times. It never gets much bigger than that. I have managed to take a leaf to start. I am hoping this time is the charm.

Then some varieties grow and bloom. I said 6 months to flower but it was a few months longer for the Starry Night. It has always been a good grower and bloomer. The shape is better with more light but the blossom are held high in less.

    Manitoba is another good grower.

I thought it was funny in an ironic kind of way that I still have both plants. But what a difference. I found that last small remnant of Buckeye Extravaganza. I had a confusion in the records and I noticed when I double checked that yes, it was purchased a few days before Joanne sent Starry Night.

Are you sure it is Buckeye Extravaganza? I looked it up - and it should be dark green with pink variegation. Yours is medium green - and no variegation. Sometimes young plants do not show much variegation though. I have no doubt that you keep your records straight - but a seller could make a mistake. I would give up on this one. Or at least tell it - next time you get sick - you are compost!

You grew a good size blooming plant from scratch at the same time - means - you have the skills - so do not waste your growing space and time on this disappointment. Life is too short - grow a plant that will give you joy!

This plant, B. E. Extravaganza is green when it is small. It becomes variegated when it is a bit larger. I have grown it out to variegated several times. The leaves are round and green when it is small. I can recognize this baby by sight.

Yes, This is that Plant's last Rodeo (except I took a very small leaf just for fun, one of the dicotyledons or whatever those first baby leaves are called. So, maybe this isn't the last of it)
