A obesum forms

Hello, I am new to this
forum - all forums actually - though I have been visiting for a while. I have learned a lot
here but have a query which I have not seen raised....

I have grown various
Adeniums from seed over the last 10 months (under lights since September) and
while I much prefer the Arabicums some of the more compact forms of Obesum are
very nice too.

Are there any
growers/seeds-men whose obesum hybridisation/selection processes have developed
plants of a more compact habit and whose seeds are more likely to produce
similar forms or do I just buy any seed and bin the tall ones?

I feel that this is true jedoba, also. I do not believe that there are too many, if any Adeniums whether it obesum, arabicum, arabicum/TS, etc. that will pass on the genetics of either parent.

I am sure that this is what they are striving for and many are getting better percentages, but easier to go into it with you eyes wide open. Then you are not disappointed upon the final result.

If you grow A. Obesum you can end up with a large caudex. With the majority of obesum's, they are raised with repotting and the large root system becomes part of the interesting caudex that is spoken of. These have the color choices of bloom.

A. arabicum's are grown for there wide bases (caudex). They have a wide caudex.

Keeping in mind that all of these are not guaranteed to give the desired traits you seek.

There are quite a few seed sellers that have quality seeds for Obesum seed.

Rinoa & Adenium-ko of Taiwan.

Isn't that the truth Rick. I started about 20 obesum late last year, and they vary from 2" tall to over a foot!

I usually prefer the smaller ones, but the really tall one has me interested; it looks like it might bloom soon.

I agree, the seedlings from last

Y ear are very varied in size and shape. I pruned them all a few weeks ago, and some are branching nicely, some have yet to leaf out at all. These are all in 6 inch pots now.

Interesting how growth is different and the different branching form coming back after your pruned. These are Adenium ? (what)

These are all obesum, but from several seed batches. There is such a wide difference even from the same batch. It's fascinating! Let's see what my new seeds will do.

I put mine back out in full sun immediately and almost all of my leaves went crisp and brown.. Oh well, defoliation is defoliation, right? ;)
